Summer Reading Grade 6-11 (June-July 2010)

Dear Parents,

Please kindly download the Summer Reading letter and reading lists below.

Summer Reading is not optional, all students are required to follow the instruction in the following letters:

Reading can maintain your English comprehension level throughout the summer. (Students who do not read during the summer tend to lose some comprehension skills.) Comprehension skills help you to succeed in school. Because we want you to keep your skills throughout the summer, you need to read over the summer!

Each MYP Student is required to read Grade level books this summer. You can choose from titles that the Library or your English teacher has provided. Your minimum total summer reading should include some 500 (Grade 6), 600 (Grade 7), 700 (Grade 8), and 800 (Grades 9,10 and 11) pages this summer. However you divide those pages will be up to you (it can be one book or many books). That means you read a minimum of 15pages per day (minimum 30 minutes per day). You can of course, read as much as you want.

Each student will keep a reading journal over the summer. The back of this paper has some advice on how to write your journal. You must write separate journal entries for every book you read.

The materials you can use to help you decide on a reading book title OR how to do your summer reading
journal will be posted on the school website as well.

Happy reading this summer!

Sincerely,

Your Teachers
