After School Activities Year 2009-2010 ASA Term 2 Schedule 25th January – 14th May 2010 Mon 11 Jan : School will send out ASA application form to K2-G12 + Parents attend ASA Open House in the Gym at 2.20 – 4.00 pm. Tue 12 – Thu 14 Jan : Apply for ASA Term 2 Fri 22 Jan : Parents get ASA confirmation letter or check out in the lobby Mon 25 Jan : Begin ASA Term 2 Badminton (G1-G5) Badminton is a fast racquet sport which is excellent in developing hand-eye co-ordination, fitness and speed. Ballet (K2-G5) Under the course of The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) from England, your children would improve their posture (walking, standing, and gesture) and develop a proportional body shape. Moreover, ballet also helps the physical draw back such as bowed legs. Nevertheless, ballet is a good basic for all kinds of dance like Jazz and Social Dance, etc. The appropriate age to begin ballet class is 4 years old onward for male and female. Basic Chinese Skills - CSL (K3) Students will learn basic conversation and recognize high frequency Chinese characters. Book Club (G2-G4) Students who love to read are invited to join the Book Club. We will read and discuss some of our favorite books. We will also do some art projects related to the books we are reading. Come to read, talk and have fun! Chess Club (G2-G5) Chess has a long history spanning over 1500 years. Students are invited to learn about the origins of chess, where chess was invented and how to play the game. Become a member of the Concordian Chess Club and develop your knowledge and understanding of Chess - the smart sport. Chinese Daily Language – CSL (K2, G1-G5) Student will learn basic communication skills and daily conversation. Chinese Enrichment - CSL (G5) Teacher will support the students to read the story by themselves. They will learn more new vocabulary & get more comprehensive of Chinese Text. Chinese Pinyin - CSL (G1) Student will learn the Chinese sound system – Pinyin, to be able to read and write Pinyin fluently Chinese Stories & Songs (K3) This activity is designed to help K3 students to develop their listening and speaking skills in Chinese. In the activity, students will be listening to different Chinese stories and learning to sing Chinese songs through story books, power point & flash stories, and audio songs. Choir (G1-G5) Choir is a great opportunity for all students interested in music to further advance their music and choral skills within a traditional and innovative atmosphere. Students will be encouraged to perform a variety of songs in a collaborative setting with performance opportunities both within and outside Concordian International School’s community. Clay Works (K2-G5) Clay Works – 3 Dimensions “Unlimited Fun, Learning Experiences” program is specifically designed for children to develop creative expressions, confidence, positive out-of the-box thinking and motor skills. Our Certified Trainers use premium 'Clay Works -Clay' that is safe for kids, needs no adhesives, readily mixes colors and leaves no cracks when dried naturally in air. Cooking (G1-10) Students will be exposed to practical cooking. They will learn about simple daily menus so students will be self sufficient in the kitchen. They will prepare everything from main dishes, to finger food and snacks. They will be able to create simple foods for themselves or for the whole family. Girls United (G9-G12) Girls will explore body image, appreciation of self, friendships, gender roles and norms and how this relates to the way boys and girls define themselves. Activities will include making healthy deserts, music, viewing movies, field trip to visit the United Nations or a women’s center that promotes women’s rights and concerns worldwide. Celebration of International Women’s Day in March will be one of the highlights of this program. Also guest speakers to talk on specific topics related to women. Go (Chinese Chess) – Beginner Class (G2-G10) Go is a fascinating ancient board game that originated in China more than 4000 years ago. It is played today by millions of people around the globe including countries from Europe, USA, Japan, Korea, Australia, Taiwan and growing rapidly in Thailand. It is said that the rules of go can be learned in minutes, but that it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go is simple and easy to learn but more importantly, it is challenging and fun. "Beginner Go Class" is designed for complete beginners, no basic skills are necessary. The course focuses on rules, game background and basic techniques. Golf Swing Basic (K2-G5) Students will learn to build a natural swing to match their individual body type. Teaching the fundamentals of golf (skills and techniques), and how to visualize each shot naturally with confidence. Golf - Practical (G1-G5) Taking all fundamental of golf and applying it to a golf round. Practical golf takes the student to try their skill on a round of golf. Breaking down the game of golf from tee to green, players learn and relearn etiquette of the game from direction to distance, then to the final putt. With the challenge of other players, students can compare their game with others. Showing what golf is like at a young age helps improve in concentration and discipline. With fun and enjoyment students learn how to score on the golf course. Jazz Dance (K2-K3) & Jazz Pop Dance (G1-G3) We use the curriculum from Australia called C.S.T.D., The Commonwealth Society of Teacher of Dancing, which has a combination of jazz step and hip hop step for our classes. Jazz is not only and enjoyable class for students, but also help student to develop their concentration, memorizing, and body-balance. Best of all, it develops self-confidence and self-expression as well. Jazz K Pop (G4-G12) A hip mixture of Korean trendy Jazz and Hip-Hop dance. The class is suitable for teenagers who are interested in spending their after school time with healthy entertainment through dance and music such as Wonder Girls, 2NE1. Taught by professional teachers, the class is guaranteed to be beneficial for both mental and physical health. Kid’s Drama (K2-G5) Kid’s Drama is provider of the Helen O’ Grady’s Children’s Drama Program here in Thailand. Since its conception in 1979, this program for children 5 to 12 years of age has proven to be successful that it has expanded to over 20 countries, with more than 50,000 students enrolled worldwide. The Drama System taps into children’s natural love of drama and channels that energy into self-development program that is designed to boost their confidence, communicative skills and more so creativity and imagination. Moreover, program encourages learning English in a fun, easy and articulate way, thus benefiting both native and non-native speakers. Piano (K2-G12) Students will learn about rhythm, ear training and how to read note by Alfred’s system. Students will have chance to perform in public every year. Photography Club (G6-G12) One of the great attractions of the photography field is the ease with which basic skills can be learned. Unlike some of the older arts that take years of training to produce an acceptable product, anyone can learn how to take a compelling picture with some basic knowledge. This club is for High School students who would like to learn some photographic techniques essential for producing quality photographs. Students who commit to this club will produce a portfolio of their images and may be called upon on Yearbook assignments for special school events. Robotics (G1-G5) This activity offer an open space where children can have fun while building skills like creativity and problem solving. Students will learn 7 essential skills; communication, concentration and perseverance, socialization, planning and organizing, design, creative problem solving, and independent-thinking sills. Students can create their imaginative world by building a robot model and program it into action. Shaolin Kung Fu (K3-G5) Programs are designed for student to develop a strong foundation through basics and rudiments so that each student has long-term benefits in Shaolin Kung Fu. Speech Club (G6-12) Students will introduced to Duet Acting, Impromptu Speaking, Oral interpretation of Literature, and improved oratory skills Sports Stacking (G1-G5) Sports stacking is an exciting individual and team sport which is originated in the early 1980’s in southern California. Sports stacking help students develop bilateral proficiency equal performance on both sides of the body. By increasing bilateral proficiency, a student develops a greater percentage of the right side of the brain, which houses awareness, focus, creativity and rhythm. Stacking helps train the brain for sports and other activities where the use of both hands is important, such as playing a musical instrument or using the computer. Sequencing and patterning are also elements of sport stacking, which can help with reading and math skills. Sweet Kitchen (G1-G10) Students will learn how to make various snacks and desserts e.g. Cup Cakes, Pies, and cookies. Students also get to bring home what they have created! Swimming (K2-G5) Please choose the level that suitable for your child as following; • Tadpoles A - Our young swimmers generally need encouragement to not be afraid to swim, put their heads under the water and to float. • Tadpoles B - Our young swimmers generally need encouragement to put their heads under the water and to float. • Starfish - Our next group of swimmers who have gained greater confidence in the water and are ready to kick, breathe and use their arms. • Octopus - Our older students from grades one to four who require greater confidence in the water. • Dolphin - Our confident swimmers who need to perfect their technique. Table Tennis Club (G6-G12) The table tennis training for tournament is the goal of club to promote student who be serious playing table tennis and learn more techniques to play on game. Depending on your ability and physical restraints, playing table tennis gives all ages the opportunity to enjoy this form of social exercise while becoming fitter in the process. In some respects it can be seen as offering a total workout, as playing table tennis incorporates numerous body movements ultimately contributing to a thorough fitness regime. Table tennis, when played competitively, has an impressive list of physical benefits, the most obvious of which is eye-hand coordination. The speed, spin and placement of the ball are crucial, and practiced players are expert in both creating and solving puzzles involving these three attributes. Tennis (Advance) (G9-12) Advanced tennis is for student with a good level of tennis ability. Students will continue to improve their skills as well as learning strategies needed to be successful in competition. Tech Club (G6-G10) Tech club members will experiment with 3D animation and post-production video editing techniques Indoor Tennis (Beginner) (G1-G5) Beginner tennis is designed for students who have an interest in tennis but are just beginning to understand the skills needed to play the game successfully. Instruction will be given to give a sound foundation for students to play the game properly. Book Club (G2-G4) Students who love to read are invited to join the Book Club. We will read and discuss some of our favorite books. We will also do some art projects related to the books we are reading. Come to read, talk and have fun! Thai Dance (G1-G12) Student will learn about the beautiful and gentle basic movements of Thai Classical Dance. They will learn such things as proper posture, gestures and rhythmic walking steps. Thai Story Time (K2-K3): To promote and motivate children to develop positive reading habits at an early age. At story time, children are encouraged to be inquirers and thinkers. It will also build up their knowledge in problem solving and other skills necessary to improve themselves. Their creativity will also be enhanced as they do different types of activities that are related to the story. Traditional Chinese Characters (G3-G5) This course is designed for students who have already learned Chinese for more than 2 years and the Chinese native speakers have priority to register this course. Through the course, we will learn:
Violin (K2-G12) Students will learn about playing violin by Suzuki system. They will be able to read note, know about rhythm which will be the good start for playing with orchestra in the future. Weight Training (G8-G12) Weight Training Activity will introduced students to the benefits and proper techniques of weight training while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Students will be able to develop their strength and conditioning while promoting muscle growth and a stronger skeletal framework. Safety is important. Teaching students proper techniques will maximize health benefits and minimize injury risk. Young Entrepreneur Club (G9-G12) This activity will encourage students to be leaders and will allow them ideas to help guide their decisions about career choices. Students will have the opportunity to explore the workings of various businesses and factories in the Bangkok area. They will learn the information needed to compete in today’s business world. Some of the information taught will be further supported by field trips to local businesses and factories to be announced at a later date. 100 Frequent Characters - CSL (K2, G1-G2) Student will learn to recognize 100 Chinese characters (must-learn characters in Early Years curriculum). 200 Frequent Characters - CSL (G3-G5) Student will learn to recognize and write 100 to 200 most frequent Chinese characters including related radicals (depending on their grade level) |
